Tower-Mounted Amplifiers Boast 12-dB Gain

Nancy Friedrich  |  ED Online ID #14662 |  January 2007

The Advanced Wireless Services (AWS) band offers many opportunities for broadband wireless data applications. To provide fast time-to-market in the deployment of such services, a new series of tower-mounted amplifiers (TMAs) has been spawned. The dual-duplex TMAs each provide a nominal gain of 12 dB. They are offered in two distinct models: a dual AWS-band (1750 MHz/1750 MHz) variant and a dual-band AWSband/PCS-band (1750 MHz/1900 MHz) variant. The TMAs are fully compliant with version 2.0 of the Antenna Interface Standards Group (AISG) antenna control interface standard. Because of the units' low noise figures at both mid-band and band-edge, the TMAs contribute to very low antenna loss. Mid-band and band-edge noise figures for each of the amplifiers are 1.3 dB and 1.5 dB, respectively, in the AWS band. In the PCS band, those noise figures are 1.4 and 1.7 dB, respectively. The dual-duplex AWS-band TMAs, which are designed for both pole and wall mounting, are housed in a compact IP66-protected enclosure.
