[Test & Measurement]
PXI Modules Cover 100 kHz To 26.5 GHz

Nancy Friedrich  |  ED Online ID #22650 |  May 2010

A NEW FAMILY OF RF/MICROWAVE FUNCTION MODULES promises to provide configurable test and measurement solutions for both commercial and military applications. The family consists of five PXI (3U) modules available in any of six primary configurations covering 100 kHz to 2.9 GHz, 2.7 to 26.5 GHz, and 100 kHz to 26.5 GHz. The family consists of the Preselector Module, Microwave Downconverter Module, RF Downconverter Module, Local Oscillator (LO) Module, and IF Downconverter Module. Applicable modules employ programmable input signal conditioning in the form of preselection filtering from 2.7 to 26.5 GHz with bandwidths of 40 to 120 MHz. They also offer a signal input attenuation capability, which can be programmed from 0 to 70 dB in 10-dB steps. Depending on the user’s resolution bandwidth needs, the module family operates in both narrowband intermediate frequency (IF) mode with 21.4-MHz IF—with selectable 30-kHz and 8-MHz bandwidths at an IF of 21.4 MHz—and wideband IF mode with 250-MHz IF and 350-MHz bandwidth. LO switching speed is less than 1 ms. The PXI modules can be programmed to perform various RF/microwave signal-analysis functions or emulate older/obsolete instruments when operated in conjunction with PXI or PXI Express digitizers/controllers and digital-signal-processing (DSP) software.
